About me
Hi, I am Saurabh Pandey, though most people know me as Sunny. I am based in Newbury, England, and have spent more than 15 years in business and technology consulting and systems integration across the UK, the USA and Asia (India, China and Hong Kong), and ran my own consultancy, ITL, for nearly a decade. I am happiest building things: GainPal today, with a few more ambitious ideas on the workbench.
I built a reconciliation engine to sort out my own crypto, after finding that existing tax software couldn't follow it. Since then I have helped friends and others in my community with theirs, and seen the same problems with DIY crypto tax tools again and again:
- You pay for software, not an answer. Koinly, for example, charges £149 per tax year for up to 3,000 transactions on its UK Trader plan (October 2026). Expert review costs extra, and if the figures are wrong, that's still your problem.
- Mistakes hide in plain sight. The report looks finished, but transfers between your own wallets can be counted as sales, trades imported twice (once by API, once by CSV) double your gains, and coins with no purchase history show a zero cost. Your tax bill comes out wrong, and finding the cause means hours of detective work, by you.
- Support lags behind. New coins and protocols launch constantly. Bittensor subnet tokens arrived in February 2025; when I needed them, the leading tool I used couldn't handle them, and its Bittensor integration was only marked complete in June 2026.
- Your data lives in the cloud. Your full financial history sits on someone else's servers, and that matters: in January 2026, hackers stole customers' emails and tax figures from a French crypto tax platform and tried to extort it, while France has seen dozens of violent attacks on crypto holders.
So my engine works differently. It runs locally and encrypted, not on a cloud platform. It handles several chains and exchanges, futures and staking, and it gets smarter with every case: new chains, protocols and HMRC updates are added as they arrive. The same reconciled record now serves tax returns, HMRC letters, source-of-funds checks for house purchases and tax-year-end reviews.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Information Technology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Data Science and an executive management qualification.
